Crap indie bands take cover!

Annie has confirmed via both her Facebook and Twitter that the next single off Don’t Stop will be I Don’t Like Your Band. The track, produced by Paul Epworth, will only be released in Europe. It’s one of the best songs off the new album and showcases Annie’s bitchy but brainy brilliance as heard on Chewing Gum and I Don’t Like UR Girlfriend.

Hurrah! More news when I get it.

Nasty Chewing Girls is a bootleg of amazing brilliance that features Annie anthem “Chewing Gum” as it’s musical backbone.

Annie Gets Listed By PopJustice!

PopJustice has placed Don’t Stop at #3 in their Best Of 2009 list. It was beaten only by albums from Lady Gaga and La Roux! This makes two years in a row that Don’t Stop has featured on the PopJustice poll. Last year the aborted Island edition made it but the new definitive version gazumps it by two places. And quite right too.

Songs Remind Me Of You also made the Singles List at a very respectable #15 while Annie penned Mini Viva pop hit Left My Heart In Tokyo reached #8.

Pitchfork Loves ‘Songs Remind Me Of You’…

The infamously difficult to please Pitchfork has voted the Annie/Richard X track Songs Remind Me Of You at #64 in their Best Singles Of 2009!

And it goes:

Despite the awkward syntax of the title, “Songs Remind Me of You” finds Annie in tight control, sharpening her incalculable charm into the massive 1980s jam she had somehow never managed to tack onto her résumé. The cut reunites the canny Norwegian with British producer Richard X, architect of a boatload of UK dance pop hits in the last decade. While Annie may lack the go-getter appeal of some of the producer’s collaborators like Gwen Stefani or Sophie Ellis-Bextor (on the contrary, Annie prefers to bask in timeless melodies and classic turns of phrase), the bitter lament of “Songs” reminds us that when she bares her soul, it’s got fangs. –Mike Orme

Mike Orme, we salute for your great taste.

(Mini)Viva La Annie!

Mini Viva are a new pop duo who have just been launched on an unsuspecting British pop buying public. But what are they doing here on Anniemaniac?

Easy.  Annie wrote Left My Heart In Tokyo. This is a marvellous pop anthem complete with Annie’s trademark pop genius intact.  Check out the video and buy the track.  Support Annie by whatever means necessary!  Why?

Why?!

The science of this is simple.  You buy Mini Viva tracks (some of which are written by Annie) then you help fund Annie.  More money for Annie means more money to get Richard X, Paul Epworth and loads of other cool producers to collaborate with Annie.  Which, of course, means more amazing Annie albums for us!

Special thanks to Anniemaniac Dennis for the tip!

* I used the word ‘heroin’  instead of ‘heroine’ because Annie’s music is very addictive and she’s our female pop hero too!  How fantastic is that wordplay?

Planet Sound Places Anthonio In The Singles Of The Year Chart…

Channel Four Teletext service Planet Sound (of which I am a regular on the letters page when I feel like annoying the U2 fans) has placed Anthonio at….#19 in their #50 Singles Of The Year Chart. Sitting at the top of the chart is Dizzee Rascal for Bonkers. An amazing song, true, but is it as bonkers as The Breakfast Song?

(Is anything?)

PopJustice is going to help judge a competition to remix Annie’s amazing underground smash Greatest Hit. If you want to try your luck then just click on the link and see all the wonderful prizes you can get:

I Want To Remix Greatest Hit!

Alas I am totally musically bulimic thus I will not enter this competition. My own remix of My Love Is Better turned a brilliant Annie track into a comedy nightmare. But good luck to all the Anniemaniacs who enter!

Not content with releasing the best pop album of the year, Annie also does us all a favour and bashes rubbish reality television on MTV and praises Goldfrapp. More reasons to love Annie in my opinion.

Oh and Annie’s DJ set at Club Clique seemingly went down a storm last night. Lucky people!
